Stranger Than Fiction and The Illusionist

I draw a lot of my inspiration from films, and I tend to watch whatever happens to be on, or whatever V gets from the video store. I normally watch movies while I am editing, background noise, half watching half photoshopping. You can go crazy otherwise, just sitting staring at photos rendering. I also find that what I am watching or listening to has an impact on the way I edit, but anyway, I digress.

I watched two amazing movies today that actually had me so engrossed that I stopped editing and just watched. The first one was Stranger Than Fiction, shot by Roberto Schaefer who seems to have an obsession with vertical lines bordering on the pathological. Amazing framing throughout the movie, the composition always centered around vertical lines. Really beautiful to watch, and the plot isn’t bad either. The second movie was The Illusionist which was shot in these beautiful yellow tones, really an amazingly colored film, beautiful vignette effects and transitions. Naturally, having photoshop in front of me I tried to replicate it and it will be one of the actions in the next action set being released. Both of these films are highly recommended if you’re into photography or just beautiful imagery.
