His Package Is Bigger
It always amuses me when a prospective client points out another photographer and states that they are cheaper, have bigger packages or will give them more enlargements. Wedding photographers charge based on their skills and their experience rather than the size of the package, not all photographers are equal and there are a couple out there who shouldn’t be allowed to hold a camera. In other words if you would like me to shoot your wedding because you like my photos I will be flattered, whereas if you are choosing me because I am the cheapest … not so much.
Its best to pick your photographer based on whether you like his or her style rather than the cost, choose a couple, contact them and have a look at their portfolios. Pick the one you would ideally like to do your wedding and negotiate. Don’t try to compare them to another photographer based on the package, state what you can afford and what you would like and the photographer will do the calculation based on their availability and costs. If he or she can’t afford to do it for the amount you stated then move to the next one on your list. We also have to make a living.
