Celia and Hugh at the Coachhouse in Tzaneen

It’s still dark in the bungalow, in the corner the LED clock is blinking 23:50 like some sort of spastic memento mori. I know it’s lying, it was well after 1am when we finally made it into Cheerios Trout Fishing Lodge. My phone’s batteries are dead, and it could be pretty late, but I think it’s still early. There’s grey light filtering in through a crack under the door. We may still make it to breakfast.

My hands are pretty sore from photographing for 15 hours straight yesterday, and I’m typing this with the two fingers that don’t hurt. Where are we? We’re on the wrong side of Duiwelskloof (Devil’s gorge), in some sort of bungalow with a thatch roof and a door that doesn’t seem to want to stay closed. Yesterday the mist was so thick while we were crossing Magoeboeskloof that I could barely see anything further than 10m away. No we aren’t lost, but we were last night, on dirt roads, in the middle of a Tzaneen forest, no cars anywhere, no lights anywhere, half expecting M. Night Shyamalan to tap me on the shoulder.

I slip on my shoes and walk outside holding my cup of coffee, caffeine slowly dripping into my veins. The air smells like kiwi fruit. It seems a million miles away from the old world splendor and elegance of Celia and Hugh’s wedding yesterday. You have to give me a couple of hours to download the images and have a quick look through them (there are some amazing images in there) before I can upload something to the blog. In the meanwhile, you’re going to have to make do with this image of Hugh and Celia at the infinity pool at Mosaic on Alon.
