The Rand Club – Renata and Nuno

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

You have to love Johannesburg’s inner city, especially the old part near the Rand Club with all its majestic buildings and old school architecture. Its photographic heaven and kind of perfect if you were doing a fashion shoot for some sophisticated fragrance. I’ve been waiting for this one for a long time, and Renata and Nuno did not disappoint.

I’d been holding my breath from when we left St Andrews where the ceremony had been held … we were running late, it looked like a massive storm was brewing over the city, the light was starting to fade fast, and we were still a 20 minute drive away. Its not easy holding your breath for 20 minutes, getting a sugary cold drink down your throat, listening to the new Killers album on the radio and trying to keep up with a convoy of really fast mercs belting along the M2 trying to beat the rain.

So we arrived, the rain had gone somewhere to the south past the mine dumps, and we had some lovely soft light bouncing between the buildings. Renata and Nuno were game for anything, and the bridal party didn’t vocally mind me using them as background. Everything came out of the camera looking beautiful, informal, unforced. Renata’s dress, (by Julian btw) went perfectly with the ambiance of the venue and the streets, and it was just cool to have the entire city to ourselves to play with (ok, we only used one street, but there was no one on it and it felt like we were in I Am Legend – minus the blood thirsty monsters). Of course then they proceeded to get down like no one’s business and lets just say that there was a lot, a lot of dancing. I just wanted to get home and download the images, back them up to something non-magnetic. Thank you both.

Mary and Anthony at The Rand Club

Monday, April 30th, 2007

There seems to be so much to say. Thank you both for being amazing people, V and I had a total blast at the wedding. The Rand Club was such a perfect place to celebrate an amazing couple and two incredible families. Anthony, you rocked the house with your speech. I think you said all that there is to say on the matter.

You can see their sneak peek here.

[ Vendor Prop ] – Even though we were dangerously close to adopting the bass player, I’m going to give this vendor prop to the two families. Dor, was the bomb, gracious, kind and welcoming. The others were just as welcoming. There were octogenerians who made me feel I should go for dance lessons. Thank you guys for looking after us and always asking how we were doing.
