Summer Place Wedding – Bronwen + Andries

It seems I’m always posting blogs late at night these days, we’re deep into summer madness, trying to keep up with the latest weddings. A lot of the other wedding photographers in our circle are also still up, I can see them on Skype. I’m kind of half listening to the new Black Keys on my earphones – V is asleep, it’s an early morning for her tomorrow.

We were at Summer Place this weekend for Bronwen and Andries’ wedding, two people who I couldn’t imagine more in love (and two of the nicest people you’re likely to meet). You know it’s easy to get jaded in this industry, another wedding, another bride in a beautiful white dress, but looking at these two smiling at each other, sneaking crafty looks and kisses on the staircase, your heart can’t help smiling. So now, late at night, my new lava lamp keeping me company, editing those images and seeing the sneaky glances, I’m smiling again to myself, very grateful to have been able to capture those moments. The cats are still looking at me strangely.

Ceremony: St Martins in the Veld – can’t actually explain how beautiful the light is in this 100 year old church.
Reception: Summer Place – our co-ordinator was Simon who was on the ball and really accommodating.
Decor: Lorraine at Papillo Designs, rapidly becoming one of our favorite decor/wedding coordination people. Just a rockstar really.
DJ: The man, the myth, the legend, DJ Luis Almeida
Videographers: Andre from Freeman Productions – professional and unobtrusive, a pleasure to work with as always.

Ivana and Claudio at Summerplace

Very very very relaxed, yeah, I think that would just about cover Saturday with Claudio and Ivana. You know those weddings you attend where no one stressed about things, everyone is having a good time, just enjoying getting married to each other. Its a rare kind of wedding, its also my favorite kind of wedding, and we tend to get killer bee images. So yeah, it looked like it was about to start raining as the outdoor wedding ceremony started, if you’re a photographer that just means beautiful soft light and skies that don’t blow out. No-one stressed, the rain started coming down five minutes after the guests had gone inside for cocktails. Then of course there’s the family photos which we did in the rain, under a balcony, beautiful light, framed in a doorway. Damn that was some beautiful light.

Friday night we’re at Summerplace for a 007 themed event. Bond girls, fireworks, a blackjack and a roulette table, martinis and an Aston Martin. I don’t have model releases for the evening so I can’t post pics, but I’m pretty sure I can post some images of the cool decor.

Ok, a couple of color images for you from LindyAnn and John’s wedding at Summerplace. I was very tempted to give them a recoloured look, like those Elizabeth Taylor movies that they recoloured, but they looked really good very natural – the light was just perfect on the day.

it’s not often that a shoe gets a starring role in one of my pics, but besides being a Manolo Blahnik, I quite liked them – who would have thought that I’d have an opinion about shoes? So not me.

no idea who made the cake, but it looked incredible – an eggshell blue with brown trim.

If you’ve been following this blog for any length of time, you’ll know that I don’t sleep a lot and I tend to watch a lot of late night movies … black and white stuff from Hollywood’s golden age when the whites were more of an ivory and the blacks had a tinge of blue in them. LindyAnn and John remind me a lot of those movies, don’t you think LindyAnn looks like a young Elizabeth Taylor? Summerplace with its timeless elegance was a perfect spot for this classical couple and Otto De Jager Events took care of the decor and event management.

Anyway, a quick sneak peek, and since I’ve always wanted to do a completely black and white album and never have, I’m going to settle for a completely black and white blog post. Tomorrow I’ll post some color images for the traditionalists.
