Wild at Heart

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

My favorite love story ever is Wild at Heart. Sailor, Lula, the snakeskin jacket, the dark humour. Love it. Saturday at Makiti kind of reminded me of that movie for no real reason that I could tell. Ok, yes, Zelna and Gerhard did rock in a big way. Yes, we did have some amazing yellowish tinged skies. There was a road involved in our photoshoot, and they both were super photogenic despite repeatedly telling us how they always looked dorky in photos.

Anyway, Zelna, Gerhard, thank you so much for trusting us, dodging cars, barbed wire, walking away from the nice safe manicured green lawns, instant kitsch photo settings and pseudo roman statues, and going all wild at heart with us. We had a blast. The photos kick ass.

It was great to second shoot with Andrea this weekend, she seems to be busier than ever and we hardly ever get to shoot together these days. It was a perfect afternoon, sun just setting across the Magaliesberg(?), and we ended up with some killer sun-setting-over-the-mountain photos of Ursula and Mike. There were even a pair of eagles circling overhead.

Just two pics from me this week, my neck is still killing me softly, and it hurts to turn it. Anyway, I figured we haven’t had any majestic sunsets in a veld images in a while.

I’m sure there are going to be a whole bunch more on Andrea’s blog, and before any rumors start, that’s not where I hurt my neck.

Eva and Matt at The Cradle of Humankind

Monday, October 1st, 2007

My harddrive crashed last week and I am without a laptop. All my passwords were on that machine, I am no longer getting emails, my ftp client, photoshop installer, camera calibration software all gone. If you have sent me mail in the last week, I’m sorry, I’m doing my best to get it back. So this week, the blog is coming straight out of the internet cafe at the local mall, all images are straight out of the camera. No photoshop, hence no black and white, no retouching, this is the way they were shot. A new laptop is on order, goddank vir backups and next time I will be using a password manager.

This Saturday I shot with Andrea at The Cradle of Humankind. Amazing venue, beautiful skies and it didn’t hurt that Eva and Matt look like they should be advertising perfume in a magazine ad. I had a blast. The cradle is one of those places blessed with a perfectly lit chapel and an incredible vista of the Magaliesburg, the weather held and I even got great images of the guys doing their best Reservoir Dogs impersonation. Anyway, you’re here for the images and I’m rambling, I’ll post some more when my photoshop is back up and running and I can do some post-production on these.

Paolo and Hanneke at The Cradle of Humankind

Wednesday, March 22nd, 2006

Most people who photograph weddings for a living tend to get used to the fact that there are occasionally going to be guests, with more expensive equipment, snapping away from down the aisle. Imagine photographing a wedding where the bride is a lecturer at one of the most prestigious multimedia school in the country and the groom has his own film company. Lets just say that there were a lot of cameras around. It was time to take our game to the next level.

The wedding itself was beautiful, set against the Magaliesburg Mountains in a chapel that had one side completely open as the sun set behind the couple. The venue, The Cradle of Humankind, is both unique and beautiful. We had a great time, and Paolo and Hanneke were about as unpretentious and casual as one could ask of anyone about to get married. Congratulations to both of you.

[ Vendor Prop ] – DJ Alexandra. Elegant, smooth and sophisticated sounds that had many of the guests coming over to ask the artist’s name. I managed to forget to get a card, but the wedding schedule states that her number is 072.182.0292.
