Hazeldene Hall – Kimberley + Orlaf
Monday, October 4th, 2010Driving back home through Hillbrow on a Sunday morning, the city is an insomnia of smog, flickering traffic lights, purple skies, a half-formed impression of what today/tomorrow is going to bring. My ears are feeling that odd after echo that you get when you’ve been exposed to very loud music, kind of like holding a shell to your ear and listening for the sea. Except that we’re in Joburg, a million miles away from the sea, and it is that time of the morning reserved for cats, taxis driving way too fast and the odd truck lumbering down Beyers Naude. Tuks FM is playing Crash Car Burn and it seems to fit in nicely.
It has been a long day at Hazeldene Hall, Kimberley and Orlaf brought the noise to the old stately house – I think I may be a hillbilly at heart, it still makes me smile when they play Sweet Home Alabama so loud that the floorboards shake and the dancefloor fills up. My favorite moment of the day was when the deacon went to bless Orlaf’s ring and noticed that it was a skull. It was that kind of day. Rockstar.
I got to take my new vintage lens out for a spin, we got to try out our new nighttime quickie photoshoot (10 minutes between starters and main course – just to get a night time feel to some of the images), and I got to shoot some extreme low light dance photos. Did I mention that the catering was by By Word of Mouth!

I used to be a big fan of Prince – ok, I still am, but back in the 80s I had the hair and everything – Purple Rain was one of my favorite tracks
