crazy season

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

Its March and it feels like its been weeks since I’ve last had a decent night’s sleep. Feb/March is our crazy season, hours of slaving in front of a hot screen, a million pixel tan, and I feel like I’m missing on posting some of the coolest work we’ve done in a while because there’s a lot of pressure to deliver the weddings in time and putting together a full blog post means a day that I could have spent editing. So you get bitty posts of single, or if we’re lucky, a couple of images from a recent’ish wedding. Maybe I’ll do a best of Feb/March in April, if you’re a Feb/March client that means you’ll probably have your selection gallery before you have a blog post.

Ok, so that’s out the way, I wanted to post this one of Diane who got married at Red Ivory a couple of weeks back. V spotted this beautiful bit of light just streaming over the trees as we were headed back and Diane was game enough to go for a bit of a bundu bash. I think it was worth it.

As always we were ably joined by the peerless DVI on video.

Charlene & Ryan (Sneak Peek)

Friday, October 9th, 2009

Since they said that they weren’t planning on taking the dress back to Australia anyway …

Charlene and Ryan - couple shoot

my version of Ophelia

Almost unbelievably, seven visits to the dentist in three months and my teeth are still sore. I’m still chewing codeine by the handful, its either that or gnawing off my arm. Hopefully, today’s visit will be the last for while. Toothache is very distracting when you’re trying to decide what shade of grey a red dress should be in black and white.

Rennette and René at Greenleaves

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Greenleaves is one of those venues up there by Hartebeespoort, with the amazing views of the Magalies Mountain Range and where we always tend to get lost at night. I was planning on leaving a trail of bread crumbs to mark our way back, but it was raining. Like it always does just before I’m about to shoot a wedding. So we took special note of where the road curved, marked the road signs in our heads and took a left at the dam towards Greenleaves.

The wedding rocked like we knew it would, what is it about Dutch couples that they are so much fun to hang out with and easy to photograph? OK, so I have a small sample size to work with (Hi Mari and Elmer) but Rennette and René rocked the photoshoot, the rain stopped as the ceremony started, that amazing light that only Hartebeespoort seems to have got turned on and the nut grove where we were doing our shoot had the perfect streetlight to add a final glow of yellow. We even made it home without getting lost.

I love the moody almost surreal feel you get when you shoot really close to the end of the day

Leopard Lodge Wedding

A bit dramatic for a wedding, but I loved the photo and just had to take it

Paula and Alan at Leopard Lodge

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

We got very lost on the way back from Leopard Lodge last night, Hartebeespoort is not exactly our regular haunt. The wedding was beautiful, the weather incredible and Paula and Alan’s families and friends were amazing and friendly. It was an honour to photograph your wedding and to witness the love you have for each other after 20 years together. Enjoy your somewhere-where-it-isn’t-cold honeymoon.
