Joanne & Adrian – the couple session

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

We had one of our coolest couple sessions today, started off at Melrose Arch and ended up at … well, its my new top secret location. Lets just call it Carlo’s place. We got to play with some low light situations, laughed way too much and I even managed to sneak in some caffeine. The weekend is officially over.

PS: Had lunch yesterday with V at this place near Melrose Arch where someone clearly had a very dark sense of humour. They’d named one of the wraps, Mary’s Little Lamb and one of the breakfasts (with two eggs) was known as the Broken Nest. Mary’s Lamb was delicious btw.

Downtown Couples Session

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

We were on our way to shoot Diane and Jason’s downtown couples session this evening, driving past that Steers in Auckland Park on our way to Newtown – the area around the Market Theatre makes for some amazing down town images – when I spotted it. It was a bottle store called Sans Souci, which my barely there french (verified by V whose french is a lot better than mine, mine mostly consists of changing the th sound into z) translates to “Without Care”. I kind of idly wondered what kind of person would call their bottle store Sans Souci in an area of town where I doubt many people speak french. Remembering a million mornings waking up with a hangover, swearing blind never to touch the demon drink again, I decide that it had to be someone with a rather cool sense of humour.

A couple of minutes later and we’re watching the sun set near the Bassline, golden African glow that only comes with a serious amount of pollutants, or a heavy hand in photoshop. Sipping coffee at the Market Theatre, dodging some odd characters on the streets of Newtown, skaters outside the Africa Museum, pigeons, old world architecture, advertisements for faith healers, hundreds of taxis adding their own soundtrack to the afternoon, a cobalt blue wall and some inner city graffiti. Throw in a super photogenic couple, late afternoon light and Joburg just being Joburg. Too easy. Diane and Jason, definitely a cool sense of humour (and some serious heels).

Carmelo and Rene – The Couples Session

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

A couple of months ago, without much fanfare, we added a new product offering to our packages. The couples session. Basically an hour with V and I photographing you and your partner in Dror Eyal Photography style – you can use it as a session for your guest book, or save the date card, or if you just want some rocking photos of you and your partner.

Anyway, this weekend it was the turn of Carmelo and Rene, two naturals in front of the camera. We met for some coffee at Doppio, and headed out to one of my fav spots to shoot at – the drive-in. Deserted and packed with memories, its one of those icons of South African culture that’s rapidly dying out. Then it was off to our super secret spot where the sun always sets picturesquely, there are trees and windmills and veld and long empty roads. The sun set perfectly as it always does, Rene and Carmelo looked very much in love and the cameras clicked away. Too easy.
