Hazeldene Hall – Kimberley + Orlaf

Monday, October 4th, 2010

Driving back home through Hillbrow on a Sunday morning, the city is an insomnia of smog, flickering traffic lights, purple skies, a half-formed impression of what today/tomorrow is going to bring. My ears are feeling that odd after echo that you get when you’ve been exposed to very loud music, kind of like holding a shell to your ear and listening for the sea. Except that we’re in Joburg, a million miles away from the sea, and it is that time of the morning reserved for cats, taxis driving way too fast and the odd truck lumbering down Beyers Naude. Tuks FM is playing Crash Car Burn and it seems to fit in nicely.

It has been a long day at Hazeldene Hall, Kimberley and Orlaf brought the noise to the old stately house – I think I may be a hillbilly at heart, it still makes me smile when they play Sweet Home Alabama so loud that the floorboards shake and the dancefloor fills up. My favorite moment of the day was when the deacon went to bless Orlaf’s ring and noticed that it was a skull. It was that kind of day. Rockstar.

I got to take my new vintage lens out for a spin, we got to try out our new nighttime quickie photoshoot (10 minutes between starters and main course – just to get a night time feel to some of the images), and I got to shoot some extreme low light dance photos. Did I mention that the catering was by By Word of Mouth!

My Favourite Weddings of 2006/2007

Saturday, September 1st, 2007

We’ve been to some really cool weddings in the 2006/2007 season. Made some friends, had a great time and shot some photos we are really proud of. In no particular order, my favourite weddings of the season.

Michael and Angela at Oakfield

Just an incredible wedding, filled with tradition and friends. Angela transformed Oakfield from a farm to a setting out of the Great Gatsby.

Maryanne and Scott at Koyama

Cool venue, laid back couple, indie sounds and glorious food from By Word Of Mouth.

Alesa and Dimitri at Saheti

Greek weddings are just fun, full stop. Add some wild Americans into the mix and well, you should have been there.

Mari and Elmer at Anderland

Two of the nicest people we’ve had the pleasure to meet.

JP and Christine at The Grace

Class and elegance would be the two words I’d use here. The love between these two was palpable.

Louise and Dan at The Westcliff

Wild. I mean really wild, like only a jewish wedding can get.

Maryanne and Scott at Koyama

Monday, October 9th, 2006

We had the pleasure of photographing Maryanne and Scott’s wedding this weekend at Koyama. What an amazing wedding, fantastic venue and really great catering.
Beautiful people deserve such a gorgeous wedding. We were honored to be a part of such a special celebration and thank you to both of you for making us feel so welcome.
There are so many amazing photos of the day, it was hard picking just a couple. Stay tuned for what is going to be one incredible album.

[ Vedor Prop ] – My vendor prop this week has to go to By Word Of Mouth. I have been to quite a few of their weddings now and they never fail to amaze me. From their excellent obliging and competent staff to their organisational skills and their ability to deal with a crisis in a calm and professional manner. Someone had brought an extra guest and we were one setting short at our table, it took a minute to sort everything out and we were set and extra place. No fuss, no worry, I doubt the bride and groom even knew anything had gone wrong.
The food was amazing, and I could go into great detail here, but lets just say that it was some of the nicest food I have eaten outside of high-end restaurants. Check out these one-of-a-kind floral designs.
