Casa Toscana Wedding – Chantelle + Riaan

I love open roads, give me a car and a long empty road and I’m happy. There’s something very meditative about driving long distances. V and I have driven some of the most romantic roads I could imagine – I remember when we first got together, driving across the Kalahari to the northernmost point of the west coast, at one point getting stuck in the middle of an insane rainstorm in the Kalahari somewhere west of Pofadder. One second we could see for miles around the flattest desert you can imagine and the next it came down so heavily we couldn’t see the bonnet of the car. There’s still a huge black and white photo of that trip hanging above my desk.

I know, I know, millions of lyrics about the freedom of the open road and all that, for me it’s more about the joy of being alive, being in motion, landscapes zooming past the window. Give me a camera, a car with a full tank and point me in the direction of the nearest, longest road (preferably with an ocean at the end) and I’m there. So when we chatted to Chantelle and Riaan and they said that they were up for anything, I was happy, not only because they were just cool, but I’d spotted that there were some road building going on next to their venue and I had some ideas for killer bee pics.

On the day though, the light just didn’t look right, the clouds were doing something odd and the light wasn’t bouncing nicely off the building I’d planed on using as a reflector. We’d arrived early, so we did a quick scan around the block and I spotted the most perfect stretch of road, right next to a bit of veld. The sun would set perfectly, we’d get a lovely bit of flare and I could use the road as a reflector to fill in some light. Killer bee.

Let’s see, I could tell you how amazing Chantelle looked, but you can see that. How they were up for anything and ended up with some killer bee pics, but again, you can probably see that. Anyway, more pics from Chatelle and Riaan’s Casa Toscana Wedding can be seen on our facebook page.
