We recently finished shooting some images for the guide dog association calendar, cool images of dogs and owners, loads of fun. I had a grand time going though my Elliot Erwitt books looking at pics of dogs in preparation. An amazing photographer and one of my very early influences. He is most famous for saying that “all the technique in the world doesn’t compensate for the inability to notice.” Of course, he also said “when you go out into the field with your camera, wear a jacket with big pockets, LOTS of big pockets.” I’m still not sure why, but I suspect that if he had to photograph in Africa during summer he would have probably left the jacket at home and used a backpack.
