Back from Thailand
So we’re back from a badass time in Thailand, from getting lost at the Platinum Mall in Bangkok looking at the most rocking clothes (in Bangkok I am an XL) to bareback elephant riding across the Mai Wang River up north where V and I were the only two people speaking English for miles around. Drinking super strong coffee and checking out the world driving by on scooters, the superhip ice-cream store with the interactive dustbin, and eating some of the more exotic food on the planet. It was the most amazing time.
I must confess being in a country where they don’t use Latin script, where the rising and dropping intonations sounded impossibly foreign and often I could not decipher those that did speak English made me realize what a tourist I am. The best I could manage was a wai with an almost passable ‘sawat-dee’. I will do better for next time, Po, who taught himself Japanese and Spanish online has inspired me and the next time we’re in Chiang Mai I will be speaking passable Thai.
