2008
Its been an amazing year for us at the studio. We’ve shot so many beautiful weddings, made some incredible images and memories. From staring at a sky full of stars in Namibia, a soft soaking rain at a Hindu wedding on a private island in the Indian Ocean, golden sunsets on a Mauritius beach to watching a traditional dance troupe welcome the bride and groom at Mokolodi. It wouldn’t be Africa if there weren’t wild animals involved and in 2008 we were menaced by a wildebeest at Forum Homini, purred at (or growled at depending on who you hear telling the story) by a cheetah and stared at by zebras and gemsbok as we created our images on game farms and nature reserves.
It was also a year of firsts for us, our first Buddhist wedding at the temple in Bronkhurstspruit, our first Pedi bride … jiving along with dinaka dancers in a traditional ceremony at Lebowakgomo, my first baobab in a very very long time, I even got to photograph in downtown Johannesburg.
We got to photograph old friends getting married, made new friends, met so many genuine people and had a great time making memories for them. We even (reluctantly) got nominated for some awards, published in various magazines and web sites, and even interviewed. We released a set of photoshop actions and had to rapidly remove them as our servers struggled under the load.
We’ve always had amazing clients, must be this blogging thing, and our couples this year were from all over the world, including the US, Australia, New Zealand, UK, Italy, Germany and Namibia. They were our usual assortment of wedding photographers, artists, art directors, designers, graphic designers, dress designers, doctors and generally cool couples.
I think our style evolved in 2008, into a more glamorous classic look, the colors became a bit brighter, the photos slightly moodier, more polished. The styling became more casual, group photos were taken informally, although we did make the occasional set of groomsmen jump.
I was going to put together a list of my fav weddings but after going through the files, there were just too many, so we’ve put together a little portfolio of our 2008 wedding images. By no means complete, its just a year at a glance kind of thing. Anyway, thank you for trusting us with creating images for you, for following us through bushes, muddy veld, up embankments, through inner city joburg, to dodgy burnt out buildings, up back alleys, even when you probably shouldn’t have.
