We've received numerous requests for these actions and textures in the last year since we took them offline and have decided this year to put them back online and contribute all proceeds to our favourite charity - The Smile Train

8+5 (The Smile Train Edition)

The 8+5 set consists suspicuosly enough of 8 actions and 5 textures, we've added two extra actions and an extra antique texture just to spice things up a bit:

  • Arty Black and White - I got the recipe for this action off a retouching site a couple of years ago, and tweaked it a bit to suit a particular wedding I was working on. It blows out the whites, gives you a nice soft feel and just boosts the contrast, giving a very artistic look to black and white. This action works on color images as well as black and whites that just look a bit dull. Its a staple in my box of tricks for when I run out of ideas and I need to play.
  • xprocess - An extra strong cross-processing technique. I mostly use it for portraits. Use it on a duplicate layer and fade the effect until it makes the faces pop. Sometimes I just cross process the eyes.
  • Fashionstation - Have you noticed that a lot of fashion type images seem to have a faded almost bluish look to them? This is my attempt to duplicate that look.
  • thelook - Just an everyday pick up action.
  • Blue Steel II - I've had a lot of comments about this effect. I originally developed it to retrieve a sky that had blown out at a wedding at The Cradle. I later tweaked it a bit to give dramatic skies in any situation and as a bonus it tends to smooth skin tones due to the red filter effect. I use it a lot, and the effect has come to be called the desaturated effect by most of my clients.
  • Pimp It! - Just like it promises, it pimps your images. A more subtle effect than thelook, but just as effective and really nice for making images pop on the web.
  • Tea stain - If you were around in the 80's you may remember that you used to be able to get creamy or ivory black and white papers. Then later in the 90's everything turned superwhite, we used to stain our black and whites in tea to get that creamy look back.
  • Sharpen 4 web - I use this sharpen for all images that go on my website. It just gives an extra pop.
  •
  • Extras
  •
  • High Court of TV - this one is a unique look all on its own, it was the start of my experiments with vintage actions.
  • when i grow up (antique) - Part of our black and white set, it is pretty much a cool black and white conversion that makes white dresses look amazing.

Some quick before and afters before we hit the textures:

On the texture side we have:

To use the textures just paste them on a new layer above your image and experiment with different layer blends and opacities. Overlay, multiply and soft light all give good effects. The textures are all jpgs at 3008px by 2000px.

This image uses Blue Steel II and the sepia texture:

As I mentioned above, all proceeds from the sale of this pack are going to support The Smile Train. I like The Smile Train for a variety of reasons - they are a charity that organises cleft surgery to kids who need it. Hence The Smile Train name, 100% of your donation goes to programs that help kids. 0% goes to overhead or fundraising, which for me was very important. Also being in the wedding photography business I can appreciate the importance of having a smile. Anyway, enough rattling from my end, even if you don't want the actions and textures, and feel that you want to donate to the Smile Train please do so on their site - they even send you a before and after photo of the kid whose surgery you made possible.

Only 250 of these packs will be sold at $10 each and I'm hoping to be able to donate enough for 10 surgeries.

Payment is via paypal which should allow you to use a credit card as well. Because of the electronic nature of the product, there are no refunds once you've received the actions and textures - a unique link will be mailed to you to download the zip containing the actions and textures. Please have some knowledge of how to use photoshop actions and textures before buying them as I can't provide one-on-one support. As always with actions and textures, they may not work for all images, try them, experiment, modify them, play. Oh, I probably need to mention that I am not affiliated with The Smile Train in any way, I'm just trying to raise some money for them.

These actions are no longer available - please check our facebook group - The Dror Eyal Experiment -for new actions, presets and textures.
